CRAZY DISORGANIZED QUARTET CONTEST - 2007
On June 19th, hilarity reigned at the Poughkeepsie Methodist Church, where the Evergreen Chorus of Sweet Adelines International held their bi-annual Crazy Disorganized Quartet Contest. This event is designed to promote the joy of singing in a ladies barbershop quartet. As the name suggests, disorganization is the key. The contestentants wear outlandish costumes, sing alternate lyrics to songs, create "interesting" choreography, and, most of the women sing a voice part they don't sing in the chorus.
There were eight quartets in this year's contest, sporting the creative names of The Bling Sisters, Clueless, Promising Promises, The Blues Sisters, The Blush Is Off the Bloom, The Ladies, K-9 Konnection, and Family Feud. The "Fem-Cee", who introduced each quartet, was Lisa Mc Vey.
The judges were Jim Cramer, Greg Howard, Butch Ashdown, and John Hadigan, personnel of Swing Shift Quartet. The men in this quartet are members of the Poughkeepsie Newyorkers Chorus. Last year, Swing Shift won the Yankee Division Championship, and they rank in the top ten in the entire Northeast District.
The first place winner this year was K-9 Konnection, who were costumed as dogs complete with tails, and sang a medley of the Oscar Meyer Weiner song and There Ain't No Bugs On Me. Members of this blue ribbon quartet were Barbara Brennan of Saugerties, Robin Critelli of New Paltz, Laura Groeters of Olivebridge, and Sue Hannan of Cornwall.
